Be a Better Guardian of Your Health

Getting unwell seemingly comes out of nowhere and with no warning, however, being aware of and noticing the warning signs early on could make a lot of difference.

This year be a better guardian of your health by paying attention to

Sudden Weight Change: A sudden and unexplained loss or gain of weight should not be ignored. It can be pointing to a number of rather dangerous health situations. Like malnutrition, diabetes, HIV or cancer.

If you are suddenly too fat or too thin; do not wait to consult a medical person.

Loss of Appetite: For someone who eats well and enjoys eating you should be worried when you suddenly lose your zest for food. A drastic change in your appetite is usually a sign that something isn’t quite right.

Yes, there are some days or some meals that you really just cannot get yourself to eat but if your appetite does not recover, this is worrying.

Feeling Tired: Fatigue or feeling “run-down” is normal if you have just come out of a very long work week or have been going to bed in the wee morning hours and not sleeping long enough.

If you cannot shake off the tired feeling and are finding it hard to leave the house day after day; it may be a sign of something more serious.

Unexplained Pain: If there is no immediate explanation for this pain you should observe where the pain is, how often it is and how long it is. Armed with this information go to a health facility to be checked.

Pain is a sign that there is something wrong and is not something that should be ignored or something that you should treat with a wait and see if it will go away attitude.

Nausea and Vomiting: Sometimes nausea or vomiting is nothing to worry about and will subside or disappear eventually within 6 to 24 hours after the first episode but, as with most warning signs of serious illness, prolonged nausea or vomiting should be taken seriously.

Get medically checked if you have nausea or are vomiting for more than a week.
